The Chamonix Mont Blanc ski areas


6 major ski areas are accessible from Chamonix Valley—Les Grands Montets, Brévent/Flégère, Domaine de Balme, and Les Houches.

The Intersport 4810 by Pitte shop is located in the centre of Chamonix town, near the Post Office, just a stone’s throw from the Brévent/Flégère ski area (locate the shop on a map of Chamonix).

Two lift passes are available for you to hit the slopes of the XXL ski area of Chamonix Mont Blanc :


Mont Blanc Unlimited : Covering the areas of Balme, Brévent-Flégère, les Houches, les Grands Montets, and Courmayeur.



Chamonix Le Pass : Covering the areas of Balme, Brévent-Flégère and the lower part of the Grands Montets.

The different sectors in detail

Brévent-Flégère (1050–2525 metres)

Take the Planpraz gondola from the centre of Chamonix to discover a ski area with breathtaking views over Mont Blanc. The area is more suitable for skiers with a good level. Take the Brévent cable car for some incredible views.

Grands Montets (1049–3300 meters)

Three mountain faces are available to you from the Grands Montets ski area: Argentière glacier, Lognan, and La Pendant. The pistes here are very popular with skiers from all walks of life, and for more seasoned skiers there is a vast and varied range of off-piste routes. The area also has a snowpark (accessible by chairlift) that freestyle skiers will love!


Aiguille du Midi (1049–3842 meters)

Accessible only by a dizzying cable car—one of the highest in the world—discover a 360° view of Mont Blanc, and enjoy some internationally renowned off-piste skiing! (This area is only for skiers with a good level. Speak to competent mountain professionals to prepare your route).


Courmayeur (1224–2624 meters)

Cross the borders and ski in Italy! The Courmayeur ski area is ideal for skiers of all levels and offers about thirty pistes on both sides of the mountain. You will then need to take several lifts to get back to France.

Les Houches (950–1900 meters)

Over 50 pistes through the forest await you in the Les Houches ski area, suitable for all levels. As a bonus there are unique views over the Aiguille du Goûter and Bionnassay glacier that will captivate adults and children alike.





Chamonix Mont Blanc’s unique freeride area: The Vallée Blanche


Accessible from the Aiguille du Midi, a sector suitable for skiers with a good level in search of thrills!

With off-piste routes and dizzying slopes, a vertical drop of 2,800 meters for an unforgettable ride between glaciers and high mountains.

This route, which is popular with skiers from all over the world, is difficult to reach and also to get down (including the traverses!).

This area has no lifts, piste maintenance, or mountain patrol, so it requires a minimum level of skiing, good physical health, and a real personal commitment!


As with any off-piste route, it is essential to respect a few important rules :

- Find out about the snow and weather conditions

- Ask a qualified mountain guide to accompany you

- Ensure you have the appropriate equipment and level of physical health

- Have the mandatory minimum safety equipment (transceiver, shovel, and probe)
